Blythedale Update April 2019
KZN Trail Running and Blythedale Coastal Estate orchestrated a simultaneously gruelling and thrilling race day on the 10th of March. There were three races (6km, 11km, and 20km) covering the Estate’s extensive network of trails, with runners winding their way through the forest, mangroves, and along the beach. The races started and finished at the Blythedale Event Bowl, where facilities were made available to ensure the runners enjoyed a relaxing post-race experience.
This represents another successful race held at this venue. Several KZN Trail Running events have taken place here over the last few years. People can look forward to the third Toyota Warrior Race held at Blythedale. On the 20th and 21st of July, Toyota Warrior #4 powered by Reebok will return as part of the countrywide circuit. Warriors will take on epic endurance and sprint challenges against a backdrop of pristine beaches and unspoiled coastal terrain.
An even more recent event held in and around the event bowl was hosted by the North Coast Kayak Fishing Club. North Coast vs South Coast Summer League took place on the 13th of April in view of Blythedale’s 3.2 km beachfront. It was fun for the fishermen; less so for the fish. Morné Coombe landed the biggest one, hooking a 19.55 kg couta. The club chairman, Wayne Biljoen, had the following to say: “What a jol! The camping was superb for the competitors who stayed for the weekend. Many thanks to Lee Hamblin for arranging the accommodation and venue for the event which was the beautiful Blythedale Coastal Estate on the pristine beaches of the North Coast.”
Johan Bodenstein of Indiflora CC has taken the lead role in the removal of alien plant species from the Estate, ably assisted by a team comprised of members of the local community. They take an active role in the conservation of the natural environment at Blythedale, and the prevention of poaching. Assisting them in this regard is the community-sourced security team, posted at the entrance and the Event Bowl. These professionals regularly conduct rounds of the property from their stations.
Site 1375 continues to make solid progress despite the recent weather disruptions. With foundations completed, the first house at Blythedale Coastal Estate is now well underway. As development continues to gain momentum, the eLan Investor Club stands to benefit with discounts on construction at Blythedale Coastal Estate. Certain suppliers have agreed to provide property-owners with a discounted rate for building supplies and finishes. Further communication on this subject will be conveyed in due time. The offerings will be made available to the eLan Investor Club, so stay tuned.
