New KwaDukuza Regional Mall will be a short 5-minute hop from Blythedale Coastal Estate
At an estimated value of R1.5 billion, the new regional shopping centre and mixed-use development at KwaDukuza (also known as Stanger) is positioned just 500m from the R74 off-ramp, over the N2 from Blythedale Coastal Estate.
The new development will completely transform the existing town centre. Speaking at an official sod-turning ceremony, well-known entrepreneur, Vivian Reddy officially launched the project last week.
Work is underway on the first phase of the development, the 30 0000m2 mall. Indicating high demand for retail space in the area, the mall is already 85% let. Anchored by popular national chains Woolworths, Checkers and Pick n Pay, the mall will bring new shopping convenience to the town. A total of 120 national, regional and local retailers, from fashion, grocery and homeware stores to restaurants will be accommodated.
In line with contemporary town-planning, the mall is a key component of a bigger mixed-use development. Further phases include a state of the art civic centre, a 10 000 m2 value centre, a medical centre and 25 000 m2 of office space.
Due for completion in September 2018, it is anticipated that the mall will provide new commercial opportunities as well as convenience to local communities. According to KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu, the municipality aims to ensure that at least 15% of store owners are from the area. Job creation is also a priority and a skills development initiative will run during the construction phase.
The impact on Stanger just 8km from Blythedale and surrounding areas will see tremendous spinoff from this type of development. Jobs will be created and improved infrastructure will fulfill homeowners’ important need for convenience.
