Superfit Senzo does himself, his sponsors and Simbithi proud!

 In General

He’s an all-round nice guy, family man, aspirant black belt karateka and, after smashing the tough ‘Black Ops’ race at Blythedale Coastal Estate, a triumphant ‘Warrior’!

Barman at the Simbithi Country Club, Senzo Majola, aced the tough 15km 30 obstacle course in just over two hours to claim sixth place in the Rookie category.

After chatting with Senzo at the eLan Property Group’s golf day at Simbithi Country Club, Blythedale Coastal Estate Sales and Development Director, Andrew Thompson, said the group was inspired to sponsor Senzo’s entry to the event.

“He radiates a great ethic and it’s very apparent how fit he is,” says Thompson who completed the race alongside Senzo. “He took up the challenge and relished the opportunity to compete and meet the likes of Max Cluer and Warrior Ric at the start of the comp.”

Senzo hails from Shayamoya in Shakaskraal and opts to cycle the 12 km back and forth to work as part of his fitness training. Eight years ago he started an initiative in his community to try to get kids off the street and away from social ills.

From Monday to Friday he teaches karate to a group from the age of seven and up at the local community hall. A sensei from Stanger helps with the students grading and he is also encouraging Senzo to progress from his brown to first black belt.

Hosted at Blythedale Coastal Estate for the first time, the Toyota Warrior Race, powered by Reebok, is the country’s largest obstacle course race series. It offers athletes the opportunity to compete with one another, to live out their sense of adventure and to break barriers never thought possible.

The Event Bowl at Blythedale Coastal Estate was a splendid battleground for the event, hosting over 3,000 ‘warriors’ and their 2,000 supporters as they gathered from around the country to tackle three tough obstacle courses set up around the stunning estate over two days.

Thompson says he hopes to see a Simbithi team, a Blythedale conservation team, and an eLan team at next year’s event. The race, which Blythedale Coastal Estate has secured for the next three years, promises to be a highlight on the local calendar.

Senzo has been working at Simbithi for the past six years and enjoys meeting visitors to the club and has built up good relationships with the regulars. A big thanks to Malcolm Samuel and his team at Simbithi for allowing him timeout to compete.
