| John Smit lines up in coastal property game |
 |
JOHN SMIT is playing the property game. South Africa’s most capped rugby captain is once again scrumming down with property developers the eLan Group, to bring a new development project to the market.
After developing a sectional title block in the Simbithi Eco-Estate near Ballito, Smit has now turned his attention to the Blythedale Coastal Resort on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.
This development, as the “curtain raiser” for Blythedale Coastal Resort, will offer 35 modern homes, setting the tone for what is to follow Architect George Elphick of award-winning Elphick Proome Architects, has been commissioned to create “a new paradigm in housing, with a fresh look at living in a sub-tropical coastal environment.”
Elphick says the new project will be at the forefront of environmentally sustainable living. The buildings incorporate broad roof overhangs, integrated solar control elements, solar water heating, large openings for natural ventilation, extensive glass to maximise natural light and use of local materials and fittings to reduce the carbon footprint of the scheme.
The cluster development will have two units in each cluster. There are three unit types designed to capitalise on the site’s slope and to enjoy the elevated views of a dam feature.
A small private courtyard for outdoor living and entertainment is included.
“Blythedale Coastal Resort’s landscape will create a new backdrop for this innovative concept of cluster living,” says Elphick.
Blythedale Coastal Resort is a 1 000ha development 45 minutes north of Umhlanga. It consists of 5 000 units in five residential components. The resort will offer a diverse lifestyle, with a 3km stretch of beach and 320ha of indigenous forest.
